What are Kasbahs and Ksars?
Kasbahs
Kasbahs are fortified citadels or palaces, typically located in strategic locations such as hilltops or riverbanks. They were used as military strongholds, administrative centers, and residences for rulers and their entourages. Kasbahs often feature high walls, towers, and elaborate gates.
Ksars
Ksars are fortified villages or towns, surrounded by high walls and towers. They were built by Berber communities to protect themselves from invaders and to store their crops and livestock. Ksars are typically made of mud-brick or stone and often feature a communal mosque, a market, and a granary.
